(Greek germander)


Botanical info: 

Greek germander is an evergreen sub-shrub growing up to 40 cm high. The silvery hairy leaves, possess a delicate aromatic profile. It grows naturally in rocky places, phrygana, and in sunny pastures. It is native to the east Mediterranean Basin. Flowering from May to June.  


Hippocratic legacy: 

    a. In Ulcers:

        a. Greek germander is recommended against oedema and inflammation of wounds. 

    b. In Diseases of Women 1: 

        a. Is described as conception promoting agent.

    c. In Diseases of Women 2:

        a. Is recommended as fumigant against uterus bleeding. 


Other uses:

Greek germander is used for various supposed treatments in traditional medicine, although it has potential for causing liver toxicity. It has been used for different pathological conditions such as gastrointestinal disorders, inflammations, diabetes, and rheumatism. In traditional medicine, the tea of Greek germander is used for treating many diseases such as abdominal pain, indigestion, common cold and type 2 diabetes.
