Botanical info

Marjoram is a bushy sub-shrub with aromatic foliage that typically grows in an upright pattern to 30 – 60 cm tall. It grows naturally in stony hills and rocky slopes, usually on limestone, occasionally in partial shade. It is native to Turkey, and Cyprus. Flowering from June to August.

Marjoram herb:

    a. In Nature of Women: 

        a. Mixed with cypress fruit as laxative. 

Marjoram oil (Olive oil aromatized by marjoram):

    a. In Diseases of Women 2:

        a. As uterus enema for the treatment of hysteria.  

        b. For uterus fumigation.  


Other uses: 

Marjoram is used for seasoning soups, stews, salad dressings, sauces, and herbal teas. The medicinal qualities of the oil extracted from marjoram are like that of oregano. It is used as an external application for sprains, bruises, etc., and as an emmenagogue. In powdered form the herb forms part of certain sneezing powders.
